Submitting a Feature Request

Suggest new features for ShowSculptor in the Idea Portal, up-vote ideas from other studios, and see which requests are planned, in progress or shipped.

Written by Joe Naftal

Have an idea that would make ShowSculptor work better for your studio? The Idea Portal is where you tell us. You can submit a feature request, see what other studios are asking for, and up-vote the ideas you want most.

What can the Idea Portal help with?

  • Suggesting a brand-new feature or an improvement to something that already exists

  • Seeing what other studios have already asked for

  • Up-voting the ideas you'd use most

  • Following an idea as it moves from Open all the way to Shipped

Why use the Idea Portal?

Your ideas shape what we build next. Up-votes show us which requests matter to the most studios, so the most-wanted ideas rise to the top of the list. Submitting through the portal also means your request won't get lost in an inbox.

What makes the Idea Portal so special?

  • Shared with every studio. All ShowSculptor studios see the same list, so a great idea can collect votes from studios everywhere.

  • Your vote counts right away. When you submit an idea, your own up-vote is added automatically.

  • Clear status. Every idea shows where it stands, from Open to Shipped.

  • Updates from our team. When we have news about an idea, we post it right on the idea for everyone to see.

So how does the Idea Portal work?

Step 1: Open the Idea Portal

In the left sidebar, click Support, then click Idea Portal.

Step 2: Check if someone already suggested it

Before you submit, take a quick look through the list. Use the All categories dropdown to narrow it to one area of ShowSculptor, and the sort dropdown to switch between Most up-voted and Newest.

Found your idea? Up-vote it instead of submitting a new one. Lots of votes on one idea tell us more than several copies of the same request.

Step 3: Click Submit an idea

Click the Submit an idea button at the top right of the page.

Step 4: Fill in your idea

  • Title: a short name for your idea.

  • Category: the area of ShowSculptor it relates to. Not sure? Pick Other.

  • Description: what it should do, and how it would help your studio.

The Submit idea button turns on once you've added a title (at least 3 characters) and a description (at least 5 characters).

Tip: Stick to one idea per request, and describe the problem you're trying to solve, not just the feature you picture. That helps us build the right thing.

Step 5: Click Submit idea

You'll see the message Idea submitted — thanks! Your idea is added to the list with your name next to Submitted by, and your first up-vote is already counted.

How to up-vote an idea

  1. Find the idea in the Idea Portal.

  2. Click the up arrow button to the left of the idea. The button fills in and the vote count goes up by one.

  3. Changed your mind? Click the button again to remove your vote.

When the list is sorted by Most up-voted, each idea also shows its rank, like #1.

What the statuses mean

  • Open: submitted and waiting for review

  • Under Review: our team is looking at it

  • Planned: it's on our roadmap

  • In Progress: we're building it now

  • Shipped: it's live in ShowSculptor

  • Declined: not something we plan to build right now

If an idea shows a link like 1 update, click it to read notes from the ShowSculptor team.

Common questions

Can other studios see my idea?

Yes. Ideas are shared with every ShowSculptor studio, along with your name as the submitter. Please don't include private studio, family or dancer information in your description.

Can I vote for an idea more than once?

No. Each person gets one vote per idea. Click the up arrow again if you want to remove your vote.

Why is the Submit idea button grayed out?

Your idea needs a title of at least 3 characters and a description of at least 5 characters. Once both are filled in, the button turns on.

Can I change or delete my idea after I submit it?

There's no edit button in the Idea Portal yet. If you need to change or remove an idea, go to Support, click Submit a Support Ticket, and let us know.

How will I know when my idea is built?

Keep an eye on its status in the Idea Portal. When it changes to Shipped, the new feature is live, and it will also be listed on the Updates page.

Which categories can I choose from?

Backstage Passes, Check In & Out, Costumes, Dashboard, Dressing Rooms, Integrations, Labs, Light Lab, Other, People Management, Performer Portal, Reports, Routines, Settings, Show Status Display, Shows, Stage Manager, To Do List, and Wardrobe Supervisor.

Something isn't working. Should I submit an idea?

No. The Idea Portal is for new features and improvements. If something is broken or you need help, go to Support and click Submit a Support Ticket instead.
